Pumpkin Spice

When I recently did a cleanse, the first thing I was craving was a pumpkin spice latte.  I can’t get enough but those tasty treats are what lead me to the cleanse in the first place so I headed out to gather ingredients to make my own at home (recipe to come).  I figured I could make a healthier version that was just as satisfying.

I found pumpkin spice already packaged but boy was it pricy so I bought all the standard spices to play around with at home and make my own:  cinnamon, cloves, ginger, allspice, and nutmeg.  I did several compare and contrasts of flavours until I came up with this mix.  It is stronger on cinnamon and more subtle on the rest.  Many pumpkin spice mixes I tried tended to be heavier in ginger but I prefer a heavier cinnamon taste.  You can always adjust.

Once I had the ratios of what I thought was a pretty awesome pumpkin spice mix I was able to make pumpkin spice whipped cream, add it to cakes and cookies, and even add a bit to my morning coffees.  Enjoy a cheaper way to spice up your routines.  It is quick and easy to do.
