Matcha Protein Shake

GREEN

Lately I have been really into matcha tea lattes.  I love matcha frappuccinos also but they have A LOT of calories.  In the winter I order quite a bit of matcha tea.  It even comes in different flavours.  My favourites, besides the original, are strawberry matcha and maple matcha.  I admit I have 6 containers on hand at any given time.

Matcha is a green tea and has all the same benefits plus some.  Unlike green tea which is steeped, matcha undergoes a process where the entire leaf is dried and ground into a powder; therefore, you are drinking the entire leaf.  Like many teas, matcha is said to have a calming effect.  It helps detoxify the body and aids in digestion, including booting metabolism.  This is why green tea is also supposed to help with weightloss.  It is also popular in Japanese tea ceremonies.

I decided it was time to combine my favourite tea with my morning breakfast of a protein shake to start my days.  It’s really easy and has become one of my go-to shakes.  I also make my own almond milk so that added creaminess really adds to the taste.

Like many of my morning shakes I use 1/2 a banana for sweetener, 1 cup of almond milk, and 1 cup of spinach.  I really pack the spinach down so I get a full serving of greens.

Then, I add my scoop of protein and 2 Tbsps of matcha powder.  Blend and you are done! (Sometimes if I like to treat myself I put a little whipped cream on top.)
