Pan con Tomate

Looking for a quick and delicious appetizer?  This is a popular one is Spain and takes minutes to put together.  It is a dish served in many tapas bars in Spain and consists of fresh baguette bread with ripe tomato and garlic rubbed on it.  Add a drizzle of olive oil and top it with some jamón, better known here in North America as, prosciutto.

I have had this with very fresh bread without being toasted but the warmth that comes from toasting helps the ingredients release some of the oils and gives it more flavour so start by toasting some fresh baguette slices.  Generously drizzle a good olive oil onto the warm bread.

Next, cut a clove of garlic in 1/2 and rub the cut side vigorously onto each toast.

Cut up a fresh tomato and rub the flesh of the tomato so it sticks to the bread.

Finally, place slices of jamón onto the toasts you have created.

It is that simple and there is something to be said for a delicious simple snack.  Be sure to serve this warm and freshly made.
